Canon: Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild

Age: Chronologically, he’s about 117. Cognitively, he’s 17

Appearance: Fairly small for his age and race at about 5’3”ish, with sandy blonde hair and light blue eyes. His hair is about shoulder length but tied up in a small ponytail. His pointed ears, a sign of his Hylian ancestry, are each pierced with a single, light blue hoop earring. He’s of medium build, enough that one could tell he’s got some strength to him with a quick glance but not threateningly-so. He dresses practically in beige pants and brown boots, a light long-sleeved shirt with an orange, and green pattern at the forearms (likely reinforced, as it looks like the ends of the shirt are actually a patterned fabric wrapped around his arm). Atop the long-sleeved shirt he wears a light blue tunic embroidered with white along the sleeves and lower hem, and what is actually an embroidered depiction of the Master Sword at the neckline. Look at this boy!
Canonically, he’s covered in scars—he found himself in a lot of scrapes as a child that required healing (thanks, Mipha!); later in life when he reemerges from the Shrine of Resurrection one of the Sheikah researchers demands to see the scars he bore from the Great Calamity as proof that he’s actually the Link from that time. We don’t see any of these scars, so locations are headcanon. He’s pretty much covered in smaller scars: cuts, gouges and the like, many of which don’t look too awful. There are a few much larger ones: a lethal appearing, deep burn scar on the left side of his chest and abdomen; a long, burn-like scar across his left forearm; a deep, burned gouge in his left shoulder. Link essentially dies during the Great Calamity, and the larger deeper scars are the wounds he received that day protecting Zelda.

Canon Point: After regaining all 13 memories (and the memories associated with the Champions Ballad; these aren’t numbered) but before returning to Hyrule Castle to handle Calamity Ganon.

Background: Bullet-points here (DW will NOT let me have the bullets here for some reason, so I've italicized every new line...)
Born to a line of Knights, his father currently serving in the Royal Guard. There’s some hints to suggest that he’s originally from Hateno Village.
Generally a rambunctious, cheerful kid. Finds himself getting hurt often while practicing swordsmanship. It’s under these conditions that he meets Mipha, the Princess of Zora’s Domain
While still a child, he’s recognized for his skill with a sword by many. He’s actually a “founder” of the Big Bad Bazz Brigade, a group of Zoras who train with Link as children
When or how Link finds the Master Sword is a mystery, pre-calamity! He just…does. There’s nothing in game that says how it happens. Presumably, Link finds himself in the Korok Forest, where he does not get lost and finds the sword in front of the Great Deku Tree. He’s probably about 12 or 13 at the time.
Link is appointed a Knight of Hyrule very young, though again we don’t have an exact date or age. He’s always been an accomplished rider and has had great skill with a sword and a bow. His humble origins and young age result in general rumormongering and distaste amongst many of the Royal Guard.
While serving at Hyrule Castle, he protects bystanders when a Guardian goes rogue and attempts to fire at them, deflecting the shot with a pot lid. Here, he is appointed Zelda’s knight. He has the Master Sword before being appointed Zelda’s knight.
There’s no timeframe given for how long Link works as Zelda’s Appointed Knight before the Great Calamity, but we can presume it’s for a good deal of time. Zelda begins hating his guts, that he doesn’t speak to her, and that he’s already got the sword. We see them visit multiple places during this time (The Shrines of Power, Courage and lastly of Wisdom), all the Champions and Divine Beasts, and generally just across Hyrule as Zelda continues her own research. I picture this to be about a years’ worth of preparation and traveling together.
On Zelda’s 17th birthday, he accompanies her to Mount Lanayru and the Shrine of Wisdom. It’s another unsuccessful attempt to awaken her Sealing Power. When they return to the base of the mountain, the other Champions are waiting and the group is here when the Calamity appears from beneath Hyrule Castle.
The Plan to stop the Calamity without Zelda’s sealing power had the four champions (Revali, Daruk, Mipha and Urbosa) head to their Divine Beasts, while Link and Zelda head to Hyrule Castle where Link can confront Ganon head-on with the Sword that Seals the Darkness. It’s not clear how far the Princess and Link make it before being forced to retreat. Presumably, they make it as far as Castle Town before seeing the spread of the corrupted Guardians and Malice is too much and they retreat. Link’s primary goal of defeating Ganon shifts to protecting Zelda at all costs.
They retreat from somewhere around Castle Town towards Kakariko Village, sticking to forests and terrain in which they could be somewhat hidden.
At Blatchery Plain just outside of Fort Hateno and about a half-day’s travel from Kakariko Village, Link falls to the Guardians. Princess Zelda urges him to run and save himself as Link is struggling to stand, clearly mortally wounded. In a desperate attempt to save her Knight, Zelda pushes him away from an oncoming Guardian blast and awakens her Sealing Power. Despite her efforts, Link succumbs to his wounds immediately after Zelda awakens her power. By luck, they are found by two Sheikah warriors, who take Link to the Shrine of Resurrection.
An important note that isn’t Link’s history persay is what Zelda does immediately after he falls. She runs to Kakariko village and speaks to Impa, Purah and Robbie, requesting their assistance for when the Hero returns. She then heads to Korok Forest to hide the Master Sword once again, before returning to Hyrule Castle and seal the Calamity.
We are FINALLY at present day! Link awakens one hundred years later (the running joke that the Hero is always oversleeping standing) in the Shrine of Resurrection. He has no memory of his past life, why he’s in the Shrine, the events of the Great Calamity—nothing.
To summarize, Link regains the runes on the Sheikah slate, and with Impa and Purah’s urging, uses the photos taken to try and remember bits of his past. The memories return to him as he visits the site of each picture. When he’s been to all 12 and freed the Divine Beasts and the spirits of the Champions from them, he returns to Impa who shows him one more image: of Blatchery Plain, where he’d fallen. It’s immediately after collecting this memory that Link is being pulled from.

Personality: Link was a rambunctious, brave and sometimes reckless child. As he grew older and with more responsibility placed upon him, he became much more reserved, so much so that Mipha writes about his silence in her journal and Zelda presumes he’s refusing to speak to her for his failures. His general silence stems from his way of coping with the burden placed upon him: he cannot and should not complain, both as a Knight of Hyrule and the chosen Hero. Instead of voicing his fears and anxieties, he stays quiet to remain collected and calm. He is so stoic that it’s difficult for others to get a read on him beyond a silent and accomplished Knight. Zelda ultimately urges him to speak with her, and he reveals the reasons behind his silence. She also learns that he’s a bit of a glutton and will eat just about anything, including Dubious Food and a Rock Roast (thanks, Daruk).
After his century of slumber and without any memory of the role he’s supposed to be playing, Link is more open and talkative. He’s even got a bit of sass to him at times, like when he’d told a bartender that he was more than 100 years old or a cook that their food “sounds gross”. He’s still very much a do-gooder, and while traveling Hyrule to regain some memories and contain the Divine Beasts he helps those in need around him, solving problems. He’s more playful, stopping to play games with local children in the remaining settlements throughout Hyrule. He’s far more expressive than the Knight he was in his prior life. Now, he’s more the lighthearted child that he was before the responsibility placed upon him overwhelmed him.
By nature, he’s diligent and courageous. Nobody ever said he had the Trifoce of Wisdom—even currently, he doesn’t always approach challenges with a plan. Many of the tasks requested of him by locals involve taking on large and dangerous creatures (Lynels, Hinoxes and Taluses, oh my!) Despite having a fierce and reckless personality, he can be gentle when needed. He’s especially fond of animals, particularly horses and dogs.
He’s afraid of forgetting again, and takes diligent notes in the Sheikah Slate of events that have happened, occasionally accompanied with his own feelings about them. (This is actually canon in the Japanese release of the game, where the adventure notes are written in the first person). Despite regaining memories of the Champions, Princess, and the world he’d lived in before, he’s still got gaping holes in his memory—of childhood, of his life before serving as the Princess’ Appointed Knight, and more. Occasionally, he remembers bits and pieces of inconsequential things, like something someone had said or something dear to someone.
Link also loves to cook. Presumably, he wasn’t so bad at it before the Calamity and still has some skill at it now. See above, where Zelda learns he’s quite a glutton.

Weaknesses/Temptations: Food. Link is a terrible glutton and will eat just about anything. He associates food with healing, as it’s always been a method to regain some strength and vitality for him (the healing potions of Hyrule, so to speak).
The biggest temptation for him will be the offer of memories. He’s still got a very incomplete picture of who he had been 100 years ago, and is sometimes desperate enough to sacrifice safety and ideals to get them back.

Sins: Many of these sins are self-imposed, and some are of the sort that he’d done out of necessity but still wouldn’t approve of. For example, stealing and lying are both on this list. There are lies as a result of him not knowing, and lies to get materials or access to places (dressing as a woman to get into Gerudo Town is a perfect example of this). Stealing property as part of surviving is something he occasionally needs to do, but he doesn’t necessarily approve of the behavior in himself. Hence, sins.
Stealing/theft
Lying
Failure to save Mipha, Daruk, Urbosa and Revali (these may need to be split up, recognizing each death individually)
Failure to save Hyrule
Failure to protect the Princess
Inability to stop the Calamity
Forgetting

Powers/Abilities: Link is ridiculously adept with weaponry, to a point where he can pick up most weapons and manage without any additional training. He’s a skilled fighter. Because he carries the soul of the Hero, he can use the Sheikah Slate to access shrines and towers. He’s an accomplished rider and exceptionally good with horses and dogs. He’s also quite strong given his size, able to clamber up mountains and use a paraglider to reach new places.

Items:
Clothes (Champions tunic, tan pants, brown boots and plain socks, cream long-sleeved undershirt and colored wraps around forearms, and a dark blue hood. A small piece of leather armor over his right forearm, and brown leather gloves, the right of which has no fingers so he can use his weapons. Blue earrings. Various leather straps to attach/carry his hammerspace bag and weapons). He has two visible pouches attached to one of the straps on his right side. [I just like to outline this specifically so I know what he’s wearing!]
Sheikah Slate. Can’t teleport, and depending upon mods may not have access to most of the runes. Can still take notes and pictures. Runes are mod-approval-dependent, and are Magnesis: manipulating metal objects by using the slate as a magnet; Remote Bombs: Round and square, that can be detonated remotely; Stasis: Stops time for a short period, but stores kinetic energy; Cryonis: Creates a pillar of ice from water; Camera: Takes pictures Master Sword/Sword that Seals the Darkness, with scabbard (probably with some limitations of power of the sword…it glows when in the presence of evil, which…might make it a bit of a problem in Hell. Details).
Hylian Shield
Soldier’s Bow, with plain arrows (no fancy bomb arrows or anything like that)
A small collection of Silent Princess flowers. If what amounts of a bouquet is too much, then a single flower is absolutely fine. It’s the symbolism more than anything
I guess I will need to think about item #6, unless the bow and arrows are two different things

SAMPLES Network: [Link has gotten familiar with the actions of the Sheikah Slate, but this is some technology that’s entirely foreign to him. He scours the network, looking at how people had used the device already before trying to access the network himself. He prefers text: it’s quieter, and easier to get his point across right.]

I am looking for a lost pet for someone. It’s called Squonk, according to the poster

[He realizes now that he’ll have to flip the device to video so he can show people the poster and associated picture of the creature. It takes him a minute to do so, but eventually the video feed turns on and is focused on a flyer that reads “LOST PET, PLEASE HELP”. The creature is…kind of sad looking, but it works.]

[His voice is quiet and a bit more hesitant when he speaks with the image on screen. He really does prefer text.]
Has anyone seen him?

[ooc: this was actually inspired by TDM #6, where Link is looking for the missing Squonk.]
